IPV4
Internet protocol is the address numbering scheme to route internet traffic. This is much like the address scheme a postal service uses to route mail or other parcels. In 1981, Internet Protocol Version Four (IPv4) was developed with the capability of servicing 4.3 billion addresses for global internet use. These addresses have depleted at an increasing rate as internet use and its applications have grown rapidly. The number of IPv4 addresses available from Regional Internet Registries (RIR) is approaching zero in the very near future. Internet Protocol Version Six (IPv6) was developed/available in 1998 with much more address space and other enhancements to IPV4. Unfortunately IPV6 is not backward compatible to IPV4 and this has created a demand for IPV4 address space!
