How IPv4 leasing works from request to activation

Step flow 1 4

Define requirements

  • Define the subnet size, region, and lease term you need.
  • Decide whether geolocation, route history, IP reputation, and hygiene constraints matter for the workload.

Browse and review

  • Review supply, pricing, contract length, blacklist monitoring coverage, and acceptable-use limits.
  • Narrow the list to blocks that match your technical and commercial requirements.

Sign agreement

  • Finalize the lease agreement and confirm the activation timeline.
  • We prepare the LOA, ROA, RPKI, and routing so the block can be brought online without delays

Activation

  • Bring the leased block into service with BGP.
  • Start using the addresses in production once the assignment is active, with abuse control and hygiene checks in place.

Use leased IPv4 for BYOIP in AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure

  • AWS

A common fit when AWS public IPv4 charges become large enough to justify bringing your own range for EC2, Elastic Load Balancing, NAT Gateway, EKS, or ECS.
  • Google Cloud

A good option when you want your own public range in Google Cloud for Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Load Balancing, or Cloud NAT instead of expanding on provider-assigned IPs.
  • Azure

Useful when Azure public IP costs keep growing across Virtual Machines, Load Balancer, NAT Gateway, or Azure Firewall and you want a dedicated range under contract.

Why lease instead of buying?

Buying ties up budget

If you need addresses for operations, not as an asset, leasing keeps cash free for the rest of the business.

Purchases take longer to close

Buying usually means a formal RIR transfer. Leasing is lighter operationally, so you can often get into service faster.

Demand may change

Not sure how long you’ll need the addresses? Leasing gives you flexibility to scale up or down at renewal.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to lease IPv4?
Pricing depends on block size, region, and contract length. As a rough starting point, a /24 often begins around EUR85 per month, and larger blocks usually get cheaper on a per-IP basis. If you send us the size and term you need, we can give you a current quote instead of a generic range.
What is the difference between leasing and renting IPv4?
In practice, leasing is the longer and steadier option. You get dedicated use under contract, usually for months or years. Renting is better when the need is short-term or you want maximum flexibility. For ad-hoc use, see rent IPv4 options.
What block sizes can I lease?
Most requests start at /24. /23 and /22 are also common, and larger blocks are possible when supply matches your region and term. Request a quote for the size you need.
Do I need an LIR to lease IPv4?
No. The block stays registered to the holder, so you are leasing usage rights rather than receiving the block into your own RIR account.
Should I lease or buy IPv4?
Lease if you need dedicated IPv4 now but do not want to tie up budget in a purchase. Buy if this is long-term infrastructure and you want the block transferred to you. Compare the buy IPv4 process.
Is my lease renewed automatically?
Usually yes, unless the contract says otherwise. Renewal terms and notice periods are agreed in advance, so you know whether the block continues automatically or needs a fresh confirmation.
